Manages to lend a helping hand even when her hands are full.
It was one of those things that you thought would
never happen to you or someone you knew. I remember my dad waking me up
long before time to get ready for school and taking me outside. I
couldn't believe what I saw: the house just a few doors down, where two
girls just a few years younger than me lived, was blazing with fire.
Even though the firefighters worked hard, they couldn't save the house.
I remember thinking how awful it must feel to
lose in everything you own one night. Clothes, toys, memories. I wanted
to do something for those girls, so I started a drive at school where
anyone could bring in donations to replace what they lost. I invited
them over to spend the night often so they could have a slice of normal
back. And for Christmas, I gave them a scrapbook that I secretly put
together with all the pictures I could get from their friends and
relatives.
I think about those girls and how our community
came together to help them every time I volunteer now. As a member of
Delta Zeta, I have the opportunity to do good and enrich other lives
through giving. I'm grateful to be given the opportunity to help, and
that has enriched my life, too. Our Creed says, "to those whom my life
may touch in slight measure, May I give graciously of what is mine." In
Delta Zeta, you not only give, but you get so much back in return.
